As we pack our bags and head out for some fun in the sun, I must bring up the age old question: to wear or not to wear high heels at the pool?  Now, I know some of you just had a truly guttural response to the question posed, but it would appear that some of the ladies in the cabana next door are unsure as to the appropriate poolside footwear.

I get it, I have a long torso and have always dreamed of having legs that were at least three inches longer each, but God had other plans that didn’t involve my appearance in a pair of angel wings during a Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.  While sky high stilettos certainly do aid in the lengthening of legs and have a certain way of making even the most gym averse look slightly toned, poolside lounging is not a Hooters bikini contest, nor is it an episode of Shahs of Sunset.  And to be quite honest, it seems it could also be a bit of a safety hazard.  Beyond slipping and falling face first whilst losing your bandeau top (and cocktail), how many of us have gotten a heel wedged in between the wood planks of the deck?

However, there may be a loophole in this style conundrum: the wedge sandal, especially in the form of an espadrille.  I’m not entirely sold though… It still seems odd to have on any type of heel when walking to the bathroom or to introduce yourself to that cute boy.  So, how does one avoid catching a case of athlete’s foot without looking like a Miss America contestant?

You have invested a small fortune in your skin and there’s no need to cancel that all out by roasting in the sun like a California raisin.  Sure, sunblock and sunglasses help protect against a gnarly sunburn, but why not come with the wrinkle fighting trifecta by adding a huge hat?  I don’t mean like J. Lo or Kim Kardashian, heavens no.  There are ways to pull off a humongous hat without looking like a pretentious poser and this is one of those times that it’s completely fine to throw a little shade.  Now, don’t be mistaken.  A hat doesn’t make SPF obsolete, but does help deflect those harmful UVA/UVB rays decreasing your chance for skin cancer and premature aging.  Bonus perk?  Hides those unruly, humidified hairs of yours.  Bless all of you with straight tresses, but I’m not in that camp, so look for me in a big ol’ sunhat by the beach.

Sure was a good thing that I spent the afternoon reading and napping, cause I am not sure I’ve ever been so bored by an awards show.  The Billboard Music Awards was so slow moving I was left wondering if everyone was handed a Xanax on their way in to their seats.  And that’s not really where my questions end.  Are they actually giving out awards at this thing and is it co-sponsored by Zuhair Murad?  PSY was nominated for multiple awards in the rap category?  Tupac just rolled over in his grave.  Was lip syncing a requirement? Drop crotch leather pants, unicorn t-shirts, body slamming- and no, I’m not describing my weekend.  Ke$sha was looking, well, not like Ke$ha in an ensemble that leads me to believe she just came straight from the pool at Wet Republic.  I understand this isn’t the Oscars, let alone the Met gala, but it was such slim pickings on the “blue carpet” that I nearly threw in the towel and smashed my guitar halfway through watching.  But alas, no one likes a quitter, so here are my picks for best, worst, and WTF?! of the night.
